Cornelius – Yumenemi
Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) release a cover of “Yumenemi”, originally a 1989 single by Japanese singer-songwriter Yosui Inoue. The track was reissued on 7-inch last autumn by Studio Mule, a subsidiary of Mule Musiq, before Cornelius recorded his version. It’s his first new release since “Glow Within”, put out under the name Cornelius HERALBONY last July, and it’s out now on Eat Your Own Ears Recordings.
The original has a reputation as a cult Balearic classic, and Oyamada’s treatment doesn’t work against that. The music video, which he made himself using AI, is out on his YouTube channel. On May 5th, Cornelius and Sparks play a double-headline show at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo.
Something about Oyamada returning to a 1989 track that’s been quietly circulating since a vinyl reissue makes sense as a first move. I’m curious where the next phase goes.
